  • A publication relayed on social networks ensures that the former Minister of Health, who has again become a doctor, administered hydroxychloroquine to a patient.
  • This patient denies to 20 Minutes .
  • The publication also wrongly accuses Agnès Buzyn of having classified the drug as a poisonous substance.

She returned to her doctor's coat to fight the coronavirus epidemic after arriving in third place in the first round of municipal elections in Paris. A month and a half after this Sunday in March, Agnès Buzyn is targeted by a rumor on social networks. Publications wrongly accuse the former Minister of Health, now a professor of hematology, of having treated a patient with hydroxychloroquine, the molecule recommended by Professor Didier Raoult.

FAKE OFF

Raymond B., the patient to whom these publications allude, confirms to 20 Minutes that he was hospitalized at the Percy military hospital, in Clamart, in Ile-de-France. It was in this establishment that the former Minister of Health resumed his duties as a doctor. However, it is "false", he explains, to say that Agnes Buzyn treated him with hydroxychloroquine.

The patient was treated with this molecule for a few days, but the former minister did not prescribe it. The first time he saw it, he also explains "not having recognized it", in particular because of the masks. "The next day, we chatted. We talked about the elections. "The ex-member of the government was there" in reinforcement, remembers Raymond B. .. I saw lots of doctors parade. "

The producer deplores the false controversy: "I was insulted on social networks, it's pathetic. He had already been forced to respond to the rumor in mid-April, before it resurfaced earlier this week. Contacted by 20 Minutes , those around Agnès Buzyn did not respond to our requests.

A classification of hydroxychloroquine which is not linked to Covid-19

This publication also accuses the former minister of having "classified this drug [hydroxychloroquine] as being harmful to public health". It is an allusion to a decree of January 13, published when it was still in office in the government. This decree places this medicine "on List II of poisonous substances". As a result, the molecule is no longer available over the counter.

As Liberation explains  , this classification is not linked to the appearance of the Covid-19. It follows an opinion from the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM), given before the start of the epidemic. The ANSM was requested after filing a request to update the drug information. This request was filed in 2018 by Sanofi, the laboratory that produces the drug.
