Christie's auction house will organize a sale in June for the benefit of a fund from the amfAR association dedicated to research on the Covid-19. The objective is to compensate for the cancellation of the famous gala of the organization, flagship social event on the sidelines of the Cannes festival, canceled because of the coronavirus.

The entire proceeds of the sale will go to this new fund recently created by the association. A series of works have been donated by collectors as well as by the artists themselves, some never exhibited in public, Christie's said in a statement released on Monday.

The list of works for sale gradually announced

The exact date of the sale, titled "From the Studio," has not been announced, but will "coincide" with Christie's New York big spring sales, which have been pushed back to the week of June 22. As for the list of works, it will be announced gradually during the month of May.

AmfAR was created in 1985 in the United States, under the chairmanship of actress Elizabeth Taylor. Since then, it has invested more than $ 550 million (507 million euros) in AIDS research programs, thanks to donations. Last year, the amfAR gala - organized each year at Cap d'Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes) - and its auction raised 15 million dollars (13.8 million euros).
