Will the famous "world after" be greener? Nearly 100 bosses of big companies signed a forum on Monday to "put the environment at the heart of economic recovery", with "social justice" after the crisis linked to the epidemic of Covid-19. Objectives: encourage the energy renovation of buildings, renewable energies or a more circular economy…

These companies, members of the Association Entreprises pour l'Environnement (EPE), believe in a column published by Le Monde that "a large part of the financial resources that will soon be mobilized for economic recovery would be well advised to be ( …) To support the ecological transition, with an even stronger concern for social justice ”.

A recovery plan in the fall

The French government has already adopted an emergency plan of 110 billion euros to support the French economy, including 20 billion for strategic businesses in difficulty. Air France-KLM has obtained 7 billion guaranteed direct or bank loans. Renault has a state guaranteed loan of 5 billion and SNCF has indicated that it would need help. An economic recovery plan is expected in September or October.

For these big bosses in industries (Thales, Airbus, Renault, Michelin), banks and insurance (Axa, Societe Generale), transport (SNCF, RATP), luxury (Kering, Chanel), energy (EDF), the food industry (Danone), employers (Medef) it is necessary "in the short and medium term" to support "the energy renovation of housing and buildings", "the development of low-carbon mobility", "the expansion and the storage of renewable and low-carbon energy ”.

Support for the European Green Pact

They also plead to “make our industrial tools in Europe more resilient”, with “the development of a more circular economy and that of a more sustainable and more local food”, as well as research aid. They support the European Green Pact aiming at carbon neutrality by 2050, which could be called into question thanks to the Covid-19 crisis.

Scientific and economic experts from the High Council for Climate (HCC) have recently argued that public aid for sectors affected by the Covid-19 crisis should be conditioned by "specific plans" in favor of the climate and asked the question of 'A revival "at all costs" of aviation, a highly polluting sector.

NGOs and elected officials regretted that the State did not condition its aid to Air France to ecological commitments, while others demand that companies that have benefited from the partial unemployment scheme financed from public funds do not pay dividends. The government has simply called for moderation.
