No more carelessness during playtime. Children who return to class from May 12 will have to learn new rules for communicating with each other, moving around, having lunch ... The Ministry of National Education released this Sunday the health protocol which must be respected in schools which will reopen from May 11 (the first day being dedicated to a pre-return of teachers). A document which reproduced many of the recommendations made by the Scientific Council on April 25 and which was amended by the Ministry of Health.

20 Minutes explains to you what the daily life of the students who will return to school will look like in May or June.

How many students will be accommodated per class?

This will be decided according to the size of the premises. But it will be necessary to respect a distance of at least one meter between each table. "A class of 50 m2 must accommodate 16 people" , quotes the protocol. But in some cities, the numbers will be lower. Example in Paris where "the idea is to accommodate between 5 and 10 students per class in kindergarten and a dozen in elementary," said Friday the assistant of the town hall in charge of education, Patrick Bloche.

Who will wear a mask?

Certainly, kindergarten teachers. For the other teachers and the staff of the establishments, it is highly recommended and even compulsory in certain situations “where the rules of distancing may not be respected. This is particularly the case for staff working with younger children or pupils with special educational needs, during movement within the class or establishment, or even during recess ”. Two masks will be provided for each day of attendance.

For kindergarten students, "wearing a mask is to be avoided", specifies the protocol. For elementary school students, "the wearing of the mask is not recommended but children can be fitted if they wish and if they are able to wear it without risk of misuse," says the document. And for students with pathologies, it will be up to the referring doctor to give his opinion. On the other hand, middle school and high school students will have to wear a mask "in all situations where the rules of distance may not be respected (staff working with students with special educational needs and during circulation within the class)". And wearing it is recommended in all other situations. Masks will be made available to them if their family has not provided them.

What will be the hygiene rules to be observed by the students?

Pupils should wash their hands "before going back to class, especially after recess, before and after each meal, before going to the toilet and after going there, after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, evening before going home and upon arrival at home, ”says the document. But "in the absence of sufficient water points, the use of a hydro-alcoholic solution can be considered, including for the youngest, under the close control of an adult", continues the protocol. Entrance doors will remain open to limit contact points.

How will they circulate in establishments?

Basic rule: maintaining a social distance of one meter between each person in the establishment. In order to prevent pupils from crossing paths too often, the school heads are invited to indicate the directions of circulation inside the premises and to favor entry to the school by several accesses. In the class, it is also asked to "take care to limit crossings, for example by setting up a direction of circulation inside the class which can be materialized on the ground". The arrival and departure of the school can be spread out over time, "depending on the number of pupils received per room and the staff present", specifies the protocol. In college, the classes will stay in the same room and it will be up to the teachers to move around. "The format 1 class = 1 room must be the principle", insists the protocol.

What can we play at recess?

You have to be imaginative, because contact and ball games are prohibited "and everything that involves the exchange of objects". Play structures whose contact surfaces cannot be disinfected are also prohibited. The protocol also recommends “staggering recess times, avoiding grouping at different levels, adapting and reducing recess times according to the number of employees. "

What about the canteen?

Student arrivals will be staggered. At the start of each meal, students will be reminded not to share their food, their glass of water, their cutlery ... But if it proves impossible to enforce the sanitary instructions in the refectory, meals can be taken in the dining room class "under the supervision of an adult and in the form of trays or packed lunches", says the text.

How often will the premises be cleaned?

Thorough cleaning of the premises will take place "at least once a day". But provision will also be made for regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces and materials, such as door and window handles, switches, flushing devices, stair railings, material taps used by students, etc.

How will students with symptoms be managed?

Parents are advised to take their child's temperature before leaving for school. But if symptoms appear in a student, he will be isolated in a room and will have to wear a mask. His temperature will be taken and his parents called to come and pick him up. If tested positive, contact cases will be identified. "Decisions of fortnight, closure of class, level or school may be taken" by the health and academic authorities.
