American screenwriter David Simon said yesterday that his new TV series will not include representatives from his previous work, "The Wire", which contradicts the details provided by his partner during an interview.

George Pelikanos, who co-authored Simon in writing "The Wire", told the French magazine "Society" that he was working with Simon and writer Ed Burns on a new project.

He explained that the new work will include representatives of "The Wire", and will be filmed in Baltimore as well, a coastal city suffering violence and poverty.

After being asked on Twitter about the interview, Simon, who also participated in the production of "Trimi" and "The Plot Against America", confirmed to the "HBO" network, at the beginning that the project was actual. "Real ... but it is not a sequel," he wrote in a tweet.

But Simon said, the day before yesterday, that the new series "has nothing to do with" The Wire, "nor any of the actors who participated in it."

He continued: «The writers themselves ... the city itself. A different story, different actors. There is no connection with the (The Wire) scientist, except that he is a photographer in Baltimore, and revolves around the subject of law enforcement. That's it".

It is noteworthy that the events of the series "The Wire" revolve around a conflict between the local police of Baltimore and an organization specialized in smuggling and promoting drugs, and in each season the focus is on a different aspect of this conflict, and the series started in 2002, which consists of 60 episodes distributed over five seasons. It lasted until 2008.

Simon: “The new series has nothing to do with The Wire.”

Pelicanos works with Simon and Ed Burns on the new project.
