Anas K., the student who set himself on fire on November 8 in Lyon to denounce student insecurity, woke up after several months of coma in the hospital, according to his family.

His sister announced it on Facebook on Thursday: "It is with great joy that I announce that Anas has been awake for a few weeks now".

"He was less and less sedated and woke up first an hour a day, then two hours, etc., until he was fully awake," she said. "He is still in the intensive care unit and will have a few more operations. But he's doing pretty well given the circumstances. "

The 22-year-old immolated himself in front of the Crous headquarters in Lyon after posting a letter on social networks mentioning his financial difficulties - he had lost his scholarship in "triplan t" his second year of license - and denouncing the precariousness of many students. The week following the tragedy, the students mobilized in numerous universities.
