The military accident on Wednesday in the Landes left a second victim, a nurse of the army health service (SSA), said Thursday, Florence Parly, the Minister of the Armed Forces. Quentin Le Dillau, general care nurse from the 186th medical unit in Cazaux (Gironde), "died of his injuries" in the morning, said Florence Parly in a press release.

Deep emotion. First-grade general care nurse Quentin Le Dillau died of his injuries after the accident yesterday. My thoughts are with his family, his brothers in arms of the army health service who everywhere continue to serve tirelessly. pic.twitter.com/nMx9enSqIx

On Wednesday evening, the Minister had already announced the death of Sergeant Pierre Pougin, helicopter-borne rescuer of the 1/67 "Pyrenees" helicopter squadron at air base 120 in Cazaux. The two men were participating in a rescue exercise. "The circumstances of this accident remain to be established," according to the press release. It would be "due to a cable break which appears for the moment completely unexplained", said for his part to AFP a source close to the investigation, who evokes "a priori a fall of 50 meters in height" of the two men.

An open judicial investigation

A judicial investigation was entrusted to the research section of the air gendarmerie in Paris. Another, as always in such circumstances, is in the hands of the Accident Investigation Bureau for State Aviation Safety (BEA-E), explained the Bordeaux prosecutor Frédérique Porterie. Two magistrates in charge of the military prosecution also went to the Cazaux base to meet the investigators. The helicopter was immobilized.
