• Aviation: The world's largest airplane flies again due to the coronavirus to transport medical supplies
  • New measures: Social distance in the sky: easyJet and other airlines propose to free the middle seat

It is an image that we relate more to an ICU than to the interior of an airplane, but this is how the AirAsia Philippines flight has taken off. The new low cost uniform is specifically designed to protect the cabin crew and their passengers during the pandemic. It has been presented by its creator, fashion designer Puey Quiñones.

The new outfits, in the corporate red of the Philippine airline, include a mask, hood and pants, and long sleeves to ensure maximum protection. According to Quinones, of Filipino origin but based in Los Angeles (USA), the suits are made of a " breathable but resistant material ". Flight attendants released them last week on a flight between Bangkok and Manila.

PPEs are "stylish and sporty." This has been described by the vice president of AirAsia Philippines, Sheila Romero, who compares them to the suit of F1 drivers. According to local magazine Metro Superbrand , the design has been approved by the Philippine Department of Health after passing the necessary stress tests to ensure the safety and mobility of the cabin crew .

"The fusion of fashion and safety will define today's new flight standards," said Romero. The crew will wear the new uniforms on all of the airline's domestic and international flights from now on.
