After the Prime Minister's announcements Tuesday on deconfinement at school, teachers' unions and parents of pupils “expressly” ask for details from the Minister of Education. In his speech to the Assembly, Édouard Philippe proposed "a very gradual reopening" of nursery and elementary schools from May 11, "everywhere on the territory, and on a voluntary basis", and at the rate of 15 students maximum by class.

Then "as of May 18, but only in the departments where the circulation of the virus is very weak, we can consider opening the colleges, starting with the 6th and the 5th," he added. Tuesday evening, the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer said that the government would decide "end of May" on the reopening of the 4th and 3rd classes. The decision to reopen high schools in early June would also be made in late May, he said on TF1. However, the bin will be evaluated on the basis of continuous monitoring only.

"We do not understand anything"

A week ago, Jean-Michel Blanquer had outlined the tracks of a return to school spread over three weeks from May 11, by class level, with groups of 15 students maximum. “We no longer understand anything: we have a discourse of caution on everything except on school. Why do we have to hurry to reopen the kindergarten and primary classes, when these are places of great promiscuity, "wonders Francette Popineau, secretary general of SNUipp-FSU, the first primary union.

And to add: "We are told that it is 10 people maximum everywhere, and in class it is 15, we say no. "We also need to be very clear, if a school cannot meet all the sanitary conditions, it does not reopen," suggests Francette Popineau. For Stéphane Crochet, general secretary of SE-Unsa, “the recovery for schools, as presented, is unacceptable and impossible. There is zero health framework ”, he also regrets.

Threat of the right of withdrawal

The Prime Minister announced that the wearing of masks was "compulsory for secondary school pupils" and that they would be supplied to those "who had not been able to obtain them". All teachers and supervisors will receive masks. On the other hand, wearing a mask "is prohibited in kindergarten" and "not recommended, given the risk of misuse, in elementary school".

On the parents' side, Rodrigo Arenas, co-president of the FCPE, the first federation of parents, asks that "school councils can be convened very quickly to find out how it can all be put in place". However, he regrets the “total vagueness which creates concern among parents”. The minister assured that his "objective is that each family is informed between May 4 and May 7 of what is happening to their child".

In the absence of rapid details on the health protocol, unions are brandishing the right of withdrawal card. “If we leave it there, we may have to use the right of withdrawal deposit. But as it changes every hour… If we use it, it will first be done with the right to alert, ”says Stéphane Crochet.
