In the marketing of Evelina Vara's book Hjärtslagen, It-Lit, a small publishing house based in Gothenburg, writes that the author has been subjected to psychological and physical violence by a known cultural personality. The press release describes the book as a shocking prosecution act on women's abuse.

It states, among other things, the person's occupation and approximate location and date of the events - details that make the person identifiable.

- I was shocked when I read the press release, disappointed and angry, says author Evelina Varas to the Culture News.

- If I had a clue about the content I would have kicked back and said that "this is how we cannot present the book". My hope was that the work would speak for itself.

Tells more than the book

According to Evelina Varas, the Heart Beat is, in fact, an abstract collection of poems, which artistically process an event a friend of her experienced. The cultural news has read the book and many of the clues about the identity of the cultural person sent out by the publisher are not found in the text.

"I have not wanted to publish a book that would be interpreted as neither sensational nor a kind of revenge, but with such a press release it is absolutely impossible to interpret the book in any other way," Varas writes in an email to SVT.

Cancels release

The press release aroused strong reactions, and a week after the mailing is stopped the book:

"New information submitted to the publisher regarding the content described in the book makes it impossible to publish," ItLit writes in a new press release.

The publisher now refers to the fact that the details in the book can lead to real people being at risk of being recognized, and that the cultural person who would be selected has been contacted by the publisher.

The situation that has arisen has several losers. For Evelina Varas, the publisher's actions mean that it may be difficult to publish the book, while the designated cultural person has not been able to defend himself.

"The press release has made the book impossible to ever publish, because it can never be read as a fictional work now," writes Evelina Varas.

The cultural person described in the press release has declined to comment on the incident. The cultural news has in vain sought the publisher It-Lit several times.
