  • The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care continues to decrease in the region.
  • However, Covid-19 continues to circulate and has made 314 victims in hospital since the beginning of the epidemic.

The symbolic milestone was crossed during the weekend. While the coronavirus epidemic has been slowing down in recent days in France, in the Pays-de-la-Loire, the resuscitation services in hospitals in the region are gradually emptying out. According to a count by the Regional Health Agency, 98 patients, aged on average 64 years, were hospitalized there Sunday evening. Among these patients are still 21 people from Ile-de-France and four from Grand Est.

However, the Covid-19 continues to circulate and make victims with 314 people who have lost their lives in the hospital since the beginning of the epidemic (and at least 234 in the medico-social establishments of the region). It is the Loire-Atlantique department that has the most deaths (115). Mayenne and Vendée (27 and 30 deaths) were more spared. A total of 1,121 recovered patients were able to return home.

"The dikes have resisted"

At the end of last week, the ARS hoped that the number of people hospitalized in intensive care would continue to drop, in order to arrive at a figure "as low as possible" for the lifting of confinement. "The levees have resisted," welcomed director Jean-Jacques Coiplet, while there was no saturation of hospital services in Pays-de-la-Loire, unlike other territories.

“Obviously, we must continue to adopt appropriate behaviors and barrier gestures. Our challenge will now be to detect cases to break the chains of contamination, says the ARS. This will involve screening, identification of contact cases, and isolation of patients. A census of available hotels and accommodation was underway this weekend.
