An elegant goldfinch, illegally detained in a cage at Nègrepelisse, in Tarn-et-Garonne. - Tarn-et-Garonne Gendarmerie

He is very handsome and has a nice name. The goldfinch has long been a ceremonial bird, but it is now illegal to hold this small passerine bird. However, the gendarmes of Nègrepelisse, in Tarn-et-Garonne, fell on Friday on one of them in a cage, while they patrolled in this commune of approximately 5.500 inhabitants.

During the search carried out with agents from the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB, ex-ONCFS), the soldiers found a total of six specimens, an elegant goldfinch and five hybrids, born from crossing with another bird. If their condition allows, they will be released into the wild.

The occupants of the house will soon be before the judicial court of Montauban to answer for this detention which constitutes an offense.
