Friends of Cancer Patients Association launched its eighth annual campaign "I deserve life", to collect Zakat money during the holy month of Ramadan, with the aim of helping cancer patients unable to afford the costs of treatment.

The association was keen in designing this year’s campaign to enable individuals and institutions to donate remotely, and provided them with electronic options to donate, in line with the state’s directives and preventive measures taken to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus Pandemic (Covid 19), where donations collected by the association play from During the campaign, a pivotal role was played in supporting cancer patients most at risk of contracting infectious diseases and helping them complete their treatment.

The association called on all institutions of the governmental and private sectors, citizens and residents of the state to restore hope to the lives of needy cancer patients, who have overburdened the cost of treatment, by donating Zakat money during the holy month.

The campaign is based on a legal fatwa issued by the “Standing Fatwa Committee” in the Emirate of Sharjah, which provides access to the Zakat of individuals and institutions ’funds to help poor and needy patients in the event that they cannot afford the costs of treatment.

Since its launch in 2013, the campaign succeeded in raising six million and 854 thousand dirhams, allocated by the association to treat 1,320 patients, providing them with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgeries, and also covered the costs of caring and treatment for patients with cancer in its early stages.

Last year, the campaign collected one million and 839 thousand dirhams of Zakat money, which helped treat 335 patients, most of whom recovered from cancer and returned to normal life.

(Abdullah), one of the cancer patients from the UAE, who is 18 years old and is receiving support from the society, said: “I started my relationship with (Friends of Cancer Patients Association) when I was eight years old, and the society has devoted its efforts over 10 years to provide me The treatment and material and moral support that I desperately needed. ”
