The Media Workshop called Pierre Haski, president of Reporters Without Borders, to present the world press freedom ranking. RSF ensures that the coming decade will be crucial for the future of journalism.

Reporters Without Borders has just published its 2020 world press freedom ranking . Democracy issues, economic difficulties, the crisis of confidence and even distrust of the media, but also, for a few months now, a global health crisis with the new coronavirus: for all these reasons, the decade which begins will be "crucial for the future of journalism, "according to RSF.

We can clearly see that this health crisis also has at the heart the question of press freedom and freedom of expression and not only public health or economic issues  ", explains Pierre Haski, who is also an editorial writer on France Inter .

He notes that "  thanks to this absolutely extravagant crisis that we have been experiencing for several weeks, there are low blows, dirty blows which are made against press freedom in a number of countries and which are not reflected regressions  ”. This is particularly the case in Hungary and Poland. But there are also examples in Algeria, Egypt and even Iraq. It is a natural reflex of authoritarian regimes to take advantage of diverted attention to do the dirty tricks,  " said our guest.

Pierre Haski wants this crisis "to  encourage citizens to be both vigilant and demanding  " in terms of information.
