Fans have been patient for 8 years. The Rolling Stones released their first new original song on Thursday since 2012. Entitled Living in a Ghost Town  , this 4-minute track is particularly suited to the pandemic that is currently affecting the world.

Written in 10 minutes

The most surprising thing is that the text was written over a year ago, well before the appearance of the new coronavirus. In an interview with Apple Music, Mick Jagger confirmed that the song "was not written for now, it was one of weird stuff". "It was on a place that before was full of life, and finds myself lifeless ... I was just playing the guitar and I wrote it quickly, in 10 minutes," added the legendary rocker, 76 years old .

The Stones were in the studio recording new material before the lockdown & one song - Living In A Ghost Town - we thought would resonate through the times we're living in. The group then knew how to adapt to the situation. Before releasing this new single, the singer modified the lyrics a little to better fit the spirit of the times. Some things "didn't work, or seemed weird or too dark," he said. The new lyrics thus evoke chaos, destruction, and loneliness of isolation: "Please let this be over / Stuck in a world without end".

The Rolling Stones were scheduled to give 15 concerts in North America starting May 8, but all were suspended. Last Saturday, the group was featured in a virtual concert organized by the organization Global Citizen in collaboration with Lady Gaga, to support the caregivers mobilized in the face of the pandemic.
