"Self-restraint for traveling across prefectures" Joint declaration by the six prefectures of Tohoku and the Niigata governors

The governors of the six prefectures of Tohoku and Niigata prefecture announced an urgent joint declaration calling for refraining from going out during large holidays and self-restraint to move across the prefecture in order to suppress the spread of the new coronavirus infection. "I strongly request that I refrain from going home and traveling across prefectures," he called.

The urgent joint declaration was issued by the governors of Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, Fukushima, Tohoku and Niigata prefectures, and the mayors of Sendai and Niigata. Among them, Governor Murai of Miyagi Prefecture and Mayor of Sendai City held a press conference at the prefectural office at 4:00 pm.

The declaration calls for cooperation not only between the prefectures of Tohoku and Niigata, but also to prevent cross-prefecture movements such as returning home and traveling from urban areas in the Kanto and Kansai regions where the infection is spreading.

Governor Murai called, "Active activities during the long holidays could lead to a dramatic increase in the number of patients, which could lead to medical collapse. We strongly request homecoming and cross-prefectural refrain from travel."

Also, the county mayor of Sendai City said, "I haven't confirmed any infected people in the past few days, but it is an important stage right now. I want to call for refraining from going out during the long holidays."

The governors of each prefecture want to prevent the spread of infection by connecting the same message from multiple prefectures with people coming and going so that they can refrain from going out during the long holidays.
