According to reports, the Macao International Airport has more than 9.6 million passengers in 2019 and 77,000 flight movements, up 16% and 18% respectively from 2018, and the airport terminal capacity has been saturated.

The Civil Aviation Authority said that considering the location of the Taipa Ferry Terminal adjacent to the Macau International Airport, with geographical advantages and space conditions, it is planned to transform some of the terminal facilities into an auxiliary terminal for the airport, and relocate some airlines and passengers to divert to the auxiliary terminal. The capacity of the terminal building improves the service level.

The reconstruction plan mainly uses about 5100 square meters of space on the first wing of the terminal as the security check and waiting area, the first wing lobby on the first floor as the check-in area, the ground floor east side of the arrival lobby and the arrival hall as the baggage handling area, And the section about 660 meters long in front of the pier to the dedicated lane of the airport is designated as the airport restricted area road. At the initial stage, at least 4 airlines will be diverted for daily operations, equipped with 12 to 16 check-in counters and 4 gates, capable of handling 1.5 to 2 million air passengers per year.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration, the auxiliary terminal space is mainly concentrated on the east side of Taipa Wharf. It was originally planned as the internal operation space of the wharf. The reconstruction will not affect the existing services of Taipa Wharf. (Finish)
