"Oh my Fake": An epidemic every 100 years? - 20 Minutes - OMF

  • A patient, treated in hospital for coronavirus, published her hospital bill on social networks.
  • Its amount, which exceeds 2,000 euros, angered the patient.
  • The Saint-Camille hospital, where she stayed, justifies the amount by recalling in particular that the coronavirus is not reimbursed 100% by social security.

2,356 euros. This is the sum that a patient suffering from coronavirus would have paid for 17 days of hospitalization at the Saint-Camille hospital located in Bry-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne). A salty bill that angered the patient. Furious, she shared her hospital note on Facebook, with a particularly committed comment: "The system that has done nothing to prevent the epidemic, that is imprisoning us is starving us now wants us to pay for hospitals under- endowed! RESISTANCE! "

Shared on several accounts, the photo quickly went viral, with many reactions from Internet users scandalized by the amount spent.

FAKE OFF

Contacted to give his version of the facts, the patient who published the note on social networks did not respond to our requests. The invoice established on April 7, 2020 and its amount of 2,356 euros are very real, as confirmed by the Saint-Camille hospital, joined by 20 Minutes .

Responsible for the “patient administration” course at Saint-Camille hospital, Simone De Sousa goes into detail: “As a private, not-for-profit hospital, we bill in exactly the same way as a public hospital. When the patient is insured, we pay the third party and bill 80% of the stay for his health insurance, or even 100% if this patient has a long-term illness (ALD) related to the hospital stay. The remaining 20% is calculated on the basis of the daily price for the hospital (which is not the same depending on the establishment). In the case of the invoice you mention, the day price is € 730 X 0.20 X 16 days = € 2,336, to which are added € 20 daily exit package "

Coronavirus is not 100% reimbursed by health insurance

The remainder is covered by universal medical coverage (CMU) or complementary health, if the patient has one. Otherwise, the entire amount will be at his expense. For the patient concerned, since she was unable to contact her, it was impossible to know whether she benefited from a mutual fund or not.

But another question arises. Unlike long-term illnesses, accidents at work or specific cases (pregnancy from 6 months, infants less than 30 days old, special procedure, etc.), for which health insurance reimburses 100%, coronavirus is not fully supported. “It's 80% reimbursed. There have been requests for the Covid-19 to be 100% supported but, for now, that is not the case, explains Simone De Sousa. So, for a person who stays 2-3 weeks with us and who does not have a mutual, it can quickly cost. In addition, the prices are different depending on the services. Resuscitation is more expensive than surgery, for example. "

For a patient with coronavirus without mutual insurance and forced to stay several days in the hospital, the bill can therefore be very steep. Triple punishment - physical, psychological and financial.
