How many people have actually been infected with Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic in Morbihan? To try to get an estimate, the department, which was one of the first foci of the coronavirus in France, began Monday a retrospective serological survey. It aims "to provide in the short term estimates on the past circulation of the virus in the population of the department," announced the departmental council.

This survey should allow "to provide an estimate of the proportion of the population actually infected with the virus since the beginning of the epidemic, beyond severe hospitalized cases, and to assess the proportion of asymptomatic people," said the departmental council in a press release.

The first known results in early May

In early March, an epidemic outbreak developed in Morbihan, affecting in particular the municipalities of Crac'h, Auray and Carnac. To carry out this survey, "a small quantity of serum will be extracted from the blood samples taken routinely in recent weeks as part of the management of a pathology or the monitoring of pregnancy or a simple control for people not sick ”.

The first results should be known in early May while the survey is being supervised by scientific advice, the same source said. This study is "exclusively" for statistical purposes, specifies the departmental council.
