  • While several parents are concerned that their child will resume school from May 11, the government spokeswoman is the subject of strong criticism for remarks allegedly made on Europe 1.
  • Sibeth Ndiaye is in fact criticized for the following quote: “At four years old, you are already able to apply simple barrier gestures such as wearing a mask, for example. "
  • These are actually fictitious and parodic comments invented by the satirical Twitter account "Journal de l'Elysée" but taken out of their original context.

After admitting herself that she did not know how to use a coronavirus mask, did Sibeth Ndiaye have the nerve to affirm that the children were quite capable of wearing it effectively to justify a recovery - contested - lessons from May 11?

This is the umpteenth reproach made against the spokesperson of the government on social networks, for sharing a quote allegedly said this week during an interview on Europe 1: "At four years old, we are already able to apply simple barrier gestures such as wearing a mask, for example ”.

But these words were never spoken by Sibeth Ndiaye since they emanate from a satirical quote invented by the parody Twitter account "Journal de l'Elysée". If it clearly claims its humorous nature, the tweet in question, illustrated with the screenshot of the government spokesperson at the microphone of Europe 1 - taken from an interview in February 2020 -, has been shared by Internet users in a truncated version. Hence the possible confusion, in the absence of this important clarification.

FAKE OFF

The fact that this quote is taken seriously can also be explained by the fact that the tweet was published the day after a real interview with Sibeth Ndiaye on Europe 1. On April 14, she had indeed answered Nathalie's questions Levy - without going to the studio, confinement requires, which therefore prevented filming.

If the interview mainly revolved around the gradual reopening of schools on May 11 and the concern of parents, as well as successive recommendations from the government on whether or not to wear a mask, Sibeth Ndiaye (who is regularly the subject of parodic quotes) never makes comments similar to those invented by the "Journal de l'Elysée".

On the contrary, she recognizes (at 2'13 in the interview) that “the objective is to ensure that the return to school is first gradual, that it is done on the basis of a constant dialogue produced by Jean-Michel Blanquer with associations representing parents of pupils, obviously with trade union organizations from the world of education, so as to […] ensure that [health] security is established.
