  • The president of the Bas-Rhin departmental council wants to re-authorize the family's arrival.
  • He feared that the isolation would affect the elderly in nursing homes too much.
  • No fewer than 94 Ehpad out of the 138 in Bas-Rhin are affected by Covid-19 cases.

Visits to residents of nursing homes are again possible in the Bas-Rhin from Saturday, on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with strict safety instructions, announced on Saturday the president (LR) of the departmental council.

“This is very good news for many families: as of this Saturday, you can see your loved ones in the nursing homes, under certain conditions. We made this decision, in consultation with the ARS [Regional Health Agency] and the prefecture, ”said Frédéric Bierry on his Twitter account.

“It's not about opening doors wide”

"It will of course be necessary to seek the agreement of the Ehpad management and to respect all the barrier measures [including the wearing of a mask]", specifies Frédéric Bierry, adding that "entry into the heart of establishments is always prohibited to the public, barring exceptions », Which will involve finding solutions, for example by organizing meetings in the courtyard or garden of the retirement home.

"It is not a question of opening the doors wide" while deaths are still to be deplored every day in the Ehpad, warns the president of the department, but to help re-establish human ties on a case by case basis, when the situation of the establishment and the elderly person allow it.

"Little by little, moments of family exchange will be able to take place, provided that it is managed gradually, with the strongest health protection possible," he explains. "I would not like that one day we will have more deaths of old people by sadness, because they let themselves die, than of Covid".
