During his speech, Emmanuel Macron raised the possibility of the beginning of deconfinement and the reopening of schools from May 11. Invited from Europe 1 on Saturday, two teachers expressed their skepticism about the authorities' ability to ensure the health security of establishments on this date.

INTERVIEW

The reopening of schools is scheduled for May 11, and yet voices are already rising on the side of parents and teachers. Will the health measures be sufficient and rapid enough to avoid a resumption of the coronavirus epidemic? On Europe 1, on Saturday, two teachers denounced a hasty and impracticable decision by the fateful date.

Maintain safety distances between students, make sure they wash their hands regularly, make them wear a mask. Resuming classes for children while the coronavirus epidemic is still rife in a logistical nightmare. "It's impossible to think about all this, there are so many parameters," says Julien Massé, teacher in the department of Vienne, who also mentions the problems of school canteens and parenting.

The cart before the horse

The government has not yet specified the procedures for reopening the schools, nor has it issued specific instructions to supervisory staff. A way to "put the cart before the horse" according to Francette Popineau, general secretary of the primary union Snuipp-FSU. "Before having defined under what conditions we could have a recovery, we talk about recovery. This is what worries everyone, parents and teachers."

According to Francette Popineau, the majority of teachers want to see their students "before summer". But she also recalls that screening capacities on May 11 should not allow testing of all children returning to class. "If we guarantee everyone's health, it is also that of all the adults in the school, and of all the adults outside. It doesn't seem reasonable to us at all."
