No case of symptoms associated with Covid-19 had been “escalated” to the Armed Forces Health Service at the stopover in Brest of the aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle , in mid-March, while more than a third of sailors are now positive for the new coronavirus, assured a military doctor on Thursday.

The origin of the contamination of the aircraft carrier is not yet known, the crew on mission for three months having not been in contact with an external element since a stopover in Brest from March 13 to 15, during which a succession of about fifty people went on board, according to the army.

The French nuclear vessel (1,750 sailors) and the air defense frigate that accompanied it (200 sailors) joined the port of Toulon on Sunday two weeks ahead of schedule, after the initial discovery of around fifty Covid-19 cases . But, on the evening of April 14, of the 1,767 sailors of the carrier strike group tested, 668 tested positive for Covid-19, announced the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
