The organizers of the Cannes Festival, which was to be held from May 13 to 20, 2020, are examining the different options that would allow it to be kept on the calendar, even if it is only in a few months. For his general delegate, Thierry Frémaux, it is unthinkable to organize it only in digital version.

Will the Cannes Film Festival take place? Given the French health situation, it will in any case not be held on the dates scheduled, from May 13 to 20, 2020. But while the summer festivals are canceled one after the other, the organizers of the meeting of the seventh art are looking for solutions to keep it on schedule even later in the year.

Its general delegate, Thierry Fremaux, has already cited some lines of thought. Why, for example, not organize it in September? It would then be held at the same time as the Venice Film Festival, which was scheduled from 2 to 12. A number of questions would then arise, including the possibility, or not, for two films to be in competition at the two festivals.

A Cannes 2020 label on the posters?

But this is the most optimistic scenario. For now, the most likely track would be that the Cannes Film Festival does not take place as such, but that it simply "supports" the films it had planned to section. With, why not, a "Cannes 2020" label on the posters, envisages Thierry Frémaux.
