This week, more than 1,300 board games are distributed to 840 children from 338 disadvantaged families in Meurthe-et-Moselle to strengthen the parent-child bond sometimes damaged during confinement, the prefecture of the department announced on Thursday.

"Valuing the role of parents and preventing difficulties encountered within families by play is important," noted Marie-Odile Girardin, president of the Meurthe-et-Moselle Family Allowance Fund, which is carrying out the project with the federation of social centers of the department, the departmental direction of social cohesion and the State.

Four games per family

"The modern board game has four characteristics: create bond, learn to respect the rules, bring pleasure and create action, the players are no longer passive like in front of the screens", underlined Pierre-Yves Boiffin, director department of social cohesion.

Each of the 338 families, living in priority districts of the department, will receive this week four different board games, combining reflection, reactivity and skill.

An associated local game publisher

Based in Heillecourt, the game publisher Iello has selected games for large families, sometimes with difficulties understanding the French language, and which may appeal to young and old, explained Raphaël Schwaller, representative of the company.

The distribution is carried out by employees of cultural social centers at the foot of the buildings, while respecting health protection measures against the coronavirus, said the prefecture. In all, 1,352 will be distributed at an estimated cost between € 6,000 and € 7,000, shared between the different partners.
