A military helicopter crashed this Wednesday in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The terrible accident left two dead and five injured, all of whom were evacuated, according to a report by the prefecture, which indicates that the aircraft belonged to the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment (RHC) of Pau and transported a total of seven people.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the town of Bouilh-Devant, a town located 22 km northeast of Tarbes, near the limits of the Gers department. Two of the injured were evacuated by helicopters, two by road, to the hospitals of Tarbes and Toulouse, according to the prefecture.

The aircraft was in exercise

The aircraft was a Cougar. The maneuver helicopter, which can carry both men and equipment, was carrying out an exercise in the area, Army spokesman Benoît Brulon told AFP. An investigation was opened to determine the causes of the accident.

The missions of this regiment combine intelligence, armed intervention, maneuver and transport of all types of troops. But it is also involved in all internal missions, such as helping populations after natural disasters.
