The government will pay on May 15 an "emergency aid" of 150 euros per family beneficiary of the RSA or the Specific Solidarity Allowance (ASS), to which will be added 100 euros per child, Prime Minister Edouard announced on Wednesday Philippe. Families who do not benefit from the RSA or SSA, but who receive housing assistance, will receive from their side 100 euros per child, said the head of government, adding that these emergency aid will benefit in total " more than four million households ”.

Their payment "will be automatic, without any action being necessary," said Edouard Philippe after the Council of Ministers, stressing that his government had "heard the call of associations fighting against poverty". This "exceptional solidarity aid", which will cost the state nearly one billion euros, aims to respond to the consequences of the epidemic crisis and confinement on the budgets of the poorest households, stressed for its part the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.

Because of social tariffs in school canteens, families have additional expenses during the closure of schools, since they have to feed their children at noon, he observed. In addition, the aid will be useful for "precarious workers who lost their jobs just before or during the crisis, and who now only benefit from social minima", but also for "households which have sometimes experienced a significant drop in casual income, like small jobs that allow them to make ends meet, ”he argued.
