At the request of the prefect of Hérault, Jacques Witkoski, the mayor of Vias withdrew an illegal municipal decree. The councilor, Jordan Dartier (DVD), had made it mandatory to wear a mask for all people moving around in the public space located in his commune of 5,719 inhabitants, located near Béziers. This decree provided for verbalization in the event of non-compliance with this obligation.

On April 10, in a video posted on social networks, the city mayor regretted that "too many people go to the beach, go to public spaces without being in the case of compulsory travel. It is therefore necessary, to combat the spread 'of the coronavirus.

A decree issued the day after the Minister of the Interior's declaration

He explained "to be forced to oblige, for the people of more than six years, to wear a device of oral protection and nasal. Failing to have a surgical mask or an FFP2 mask, users of public space [could] wear protection worn by other procedures, such as a shawl scarf ”.

Less than 24 hours after its promulgation, this decree was therefore finally withdrawn. The order was issued Friday, April 10 by the mayor, a lawyer by profession. The day before, the Minister of the Interior Castaner called on the prefects to withdraw municipal decrees on the wearing of compulsory masks in public spaces.
