Coronavirus and cinema: the exit from Hollywood blockbusters postponed

Since the beginnings of the Covid-19 epidemic, world cinema has been at half mast. Stopping of filming and festivals, and especially closing of theaters. While the French government communicates on the possible modus operandi of the end of confinement, the American majors postpone the release of their films, anticipating the closing of theaters until the end of August.

We thought James Bond invisible, yet he is not immune to the coronavirus: the producers of "Die" can wait, the 25th installment of the adventures of 007 is postponed to November.

Other American majors have readjusted their planning. Warner postponed his "Wonder Woman" from June to August. Disney has canceled the release of its Chinese superhero film "Mulan" without announcing a new date.

Meanwhile, the Sony studio made an even more radical decision: all the releases of the year, from the new ghostbusters to the animated film "Pierre Rabbit 2" are canceled and postponed to 2021.

The studio seems to be taking the lead after the rapid announcement of the pandemic in the United States. According to experts, cinemas may not reopen until the end of August. A disaster, knowing that across the Atlantic, the month of August is a crucial period that concentrates more than 40% of the year's revenues.

China's decision at the end of March to reopen 500 cinemas came to a halt after a few days. There were indeed no spectators in the rooms. Only one thing is certain: summer will be deadly for cinemas.
