China News Service, Guangzhou, April 9 (Cai Minjie, Bai Tian) The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University said on the 9th that the founder of the Guangzhou Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the former deputy director and chief physician of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor Chen Yuanben The treatment of the disease was ineffective, and he died at 22:45 on April 7 this year at the age of 89.

Professor Chen Yuanben, born in December 1930, native of Nanhai, Guangdong. He graduated from Zhongshan Medical College in 1955. In 1988, Chen Yuanben established the Guangzhou Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a discipline leader. In 1989, he successfully trained the first and second test-tube babies in Guangdong Province.

In 1978, Chen Yuanben was transferred to the Second People's Hospital of Guangzhou (now the Third Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University) by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau. He has performed difficult surgery such as intra-abdominal ovarian transplantation with homosexual vascular anastomosis, sigmoid colon replacement for vagina, etc., and cured many cases of ovarian deficiency and congenital non-vaginal patients.

In 1985, Chen Yuanben conducted research on the relationship between reproductive immunology, human leukocyte surface antigen (HLA) and obstetrics and gynecology diseases, especially with recurrent immune abortion, and successfully developed HLA standard antiserum preparation method and clinical application. This technology is one of the two earliest research units in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in the country (the other is Shanghai Tongji Hospital). In 1990, it won the first prize of Guangzhou Medical and Health Science and Technology Progress Award. It has been in use for 30 years.

At the end of 1986, the Ministry of Health listed the fight against infertility as a "7th Five-Year Plan" project, and Chen Yuanben actively requested this prospective study. At that time, the research on test-tube babies in China had just started, and there were no successful precedents in the Mainland. Can a municipal hospital do?

It is not difficult to understand what happened. The first encounter on the road of IVF research is one after another. Test tube baby technology is an organic combination of human life medicine, embryology, reproductive endocrinology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Chen Yuanben has read more than 100 foreign materials, compiled a tens of thousands of words "Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Outline", and tried to establish himself Technical process system.

At the beginning of the research work, there was not even a decent laboratory, and many hardware facilities were very simple. Chen Yuanben led the team to be confident that under such extremely difficult conditions, from case preparation, induced ovulation, monitoring of follicle development, Timely egg retrieval, sperm capacitation, in vitro fertilization and cultivation, embryo transfer and other steps, step by step practice, to overcome each problem.

Today, the reagents used in IVF laboratories are all produced by manufacturers, and the technology is very mature. However, more than 30 years ago, the culture medium needed to be prepared by itself. Weighing, pH measurement, and osmotic pressure all needed to be carried out by themselves. It has been used repeatedly for disinfection. The carbon dioxide incubator is rudimentary and unstable. It can only be observed and adjusted by the laboratory staff overnight in the laboratory. In order to ensure that there is no pollution, the water used for the culture medium is climbed to the Dinghu Mountain and Xiqiao Mountain to collect the rainwater for processing, and is distilled into qualified "three-distilled water" three times. It was the continuous climb on the rough road that ushered in the breakthrough of Guangdong test-tube babies from zero to one.

On September 15th and 16th, 1989, the first and second test-tube babies in Guangdong were born. This is the third successful unit in China after Beijing and Hunan, marking that Guangdong's assisted reproductive technology has entered the domestic advanced Ranks.

Since the birth of the first test-tube baby, Chen Yuanben continued to explore in reproductive medicine, cultivated talents, strengthened discipline construction, and promoted the continuous development of reproductive medicine. He successively carried out a number of reproductive technology derivative technologies: such as intrasperm sperm injection, embryonic stem cell technology , Cytoplasmic core transplantation and other cutting-edge technologies. In 2019, the first test-tube baby Aling deliberately returned to the hospital to see Chen Yuanben. Today, the reproductive medicine of the Third Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has developed into one of the largest reproductive medicine centers in Guangdong Province, treating a large number of infertile couples every year.
