Singer R. Kelly - Polaris / Starface

R. Kelly will remain behind bars during the COVID-19 pandemic. The interpreter of I Believe I Can Fly had asked for bail while he awaits his trials in prison. He had made this request highlighting the increased risks of being infected by the virus in prison, social distancing was impossible there.

For the New York federal judge in charge of the file, his request is not valid. "The accused is in pretrial detention because of the risks of attempted flight or obstruction, threats or intimidation of witnesses. The accused has not explained how these risks have changed, "said Ann Donnelly, a judge in Brooklyn, as relayed by ABC News.

Several cases

R. Kelly is detained at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. While three staff at this facility have tested positive for coronavirus, no inmate has officially been infected yet.

The singer is to be tried for several cases in the states of Illinois, Minnesota and New York. Many charges have been brought against him, notably for child pornography, obstruction of justice, racketeering, or even sexual assault on a minor. R. Kelly has always denied guilt.
