Two physicians in their 20s at Kyorin University Hospital infected April 18 at 18:05

Two doctors in their twenties working at a university hospital in Mitaka, Tokyo, were found to be infected with the new coronavirus, and the hospital is investigating close contacts and routes of transmission.

The infection with the new coronavirus was confirmed by two women who work in Kyorin University School of Medicine Hospital in Mitaka, Tokyo, both in their twenties, a female emergency physician and a male doctor in the gastroenterology department. .

According to a university announcement, the two of them had to wait at home due to the onset of fever since 4th of this month, and the infection was confirmed on the 7th night. Currently they are in the hospital and their symptoms are mild.

At the hospital, the health center is conducting research on the route of infection while receiving guidance from the public health center, which means that more than a dozen doctors and nurses suspected of having close contact with the two are on standby at home.

It also means that male physicians have stopped accepting new hospitalizations for gastroenterology inpatient wards where they usually work. On the other hand, an emergency outpatient where a female resident is working means that he / she is continuing medical treatment.

"We will take appropriate measures and strive to provide even more thorough infection prevention and safe medical care," commented Dr. Shoichi Ichimura, Director of Kyorin University Hospital.
