The confined concert of the National Capitole Orchestra of Toulouse. - ONCT

  • Even confined, the Capitole National Orchestra of Toulouse still plays.
  • Its musicians broadcast in unison a virtual piece online.
  • A way to keep in touch with their audience but also between them.

A no-nonsense wink. With confinement, the musicians of the famous National Capitole Orchestra of Toulouse are dispersed to the four winds, who in the countryside, who in his apartment. But they decided to keep the link between themselves and with their public as evidenced by the beautiful score broadcast since Tuesday evening on social networks.

Thank you to the musicians of @ ONCT_Toulouse for this magnificent initiative 🤩

"From March 17, and even before with the ban on gatherings, the idea quickly became apparent that our only way to exist was to continue playing together, even in an illusory manner," says Jean. -Baptiste Jourdin, member of the artistic committee of the ONCT, at the origin of this idea of virtually extending the “visibility” of the training. With two other musicians, the violinist volunteered to mix, synchronize and mount this concert online, from videos sent by fifty colleagues, on the 77 professionals in the orchestra.

Berlioz and a mascot

The bass drum poses with a large dog, some are made up or have disguised their score as a health prevention message, others play with the family, completely relaxed, far from the stuffy atmosphere of the Halles aux Grains concerts and others prestigious rooms. As for the song, which sounds familiar even to the ears of non-music lovers, it is the Hungarian March, extracted from La Damnation de Faust by Hector Berlioz. “There is a real storm of ideas, remembers Jean-Baptiste Jourdin. We chose this piece because it is French, we have often played it in recent years and it has become a bit iconic for us. ” In a short, original and exploded version, which gives a warm note to long hours of confinement.
