Aomori Nebuta Festival Canceled Officially decided New Coronavirus April 8 17:10

The executive committee of Aomori Nebuta Festival, one of Tohoku's leading summer festivals, has officially decided to cancel the event after the spread of the new coronavirus.

The Aomori Nebuta Festival, which celebrates the summer of Aomori, is held in the center of Aomori City, and is visited by around 2.5 million people each year from around the world.

An executive committee was held in Aomori City on August 8 to discuss how to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus.

First, Chairman Hidenori Nara said, "We have operated the safety and security of the audience first. Judgment must be made after removing all optimistic ideas."

"The prime minister yesterday declared an emergency. I grew up in this town, but I feel sorry, but I have to give up."

On the other hand, there was no objection from the other members, and I decided to cancel this thing officially. This is the first time that the Aomori Nebuta Festival has been canceled since 1958, when it was held in its current form.

After the committee ended, Nara revealed that there was no opposition to the cancellation in a questionnaire survey conducted on Nebuta's service group. He said, "When I said the word" cancellation, "many people came to my face. Unfortunately, I want to create a new Nebuta festival next year."
