When the coronavirus crisis swept over France, she said she was "emotionally struck by all the solidarity initiatives implemented". And wondered at her level what she could do "with the heart" to "make an imprint". In love with words and literature, Bérangère Wolff, co-founder of the Haute Couture Trafalgar Writing House, a young company based in Lyon, decided to return to basics. The small team of six employees, whom she supervises, launched a large chain of letters on the website a few days ago: https://www.lettrescapitales-trafalgar.com.

"The goal was to revive correspondence for people who needed to express their feelings during this period of confinement during which everyone's daily life is turned upside down," she explains. On the dedicated site, everyone can fill out a form for free, authorizing the company to publish part or all of their letter. Or request that it remain strictly confidential. "At the end of the confinement, we will then send a handwritten letter, copied with love, to the recipients. We are committed to ensuring that they receive them all, ”continues Bérangère Wolff.

"Writing is in our DNA"

About fifty have already been posted on the site anonymously. A poetic parenthesis for any reader who would consult it. And the profiles of the authors are very different. Like this grandmother living in Brittany who did not have the chance to see her grandson, born three weeks before confinement. And who speaks with emotion to his "little Gustave". "A month ago when I received your first photo on my laptop, my heart was racing. I even had the impression that it was going down, magic moment ”, she declares to the baby.

"We also have people who write to themselves to leave a trace of this period or former lovers who address their past loves, people who write to their loved ones working in the medical field, or to their best friends they miss, ”reveals the young woman. And to add: "It's quite touching. We are no longer necessarily used to the exercise of the letter, which is specific. There, people take the time to take care of their scriptures. But some do it instinctively, without adopting a particular style. We have sometimes received very funny letters like that of this young man who lives in the suburbs and who makes fun of himself by specifying that he makes a mistake every two words. But he wanted to write to a young woman with whom he is secretly in love and whom he never dared to approach ”.

“Writing is in our DNA. Finally, the form, it is the bottom which rises to the surface ”, concludes Bérangère Wolff thus borrowing a sentence from Victor Hugo.
