The Nigerian police arrested the most famous actresses of Nigeria because they held a birthday party in Lagos, which was closed to limit the spread of the new Corona virus, according to the police.

Actress Funky Akendele, known as Geneva, was accused of receiving her guests at her elite marital home in Lycky Saturday.

"Funci Akendele and her husband have been arrested because they have defied the government's directive to prevent large groups of people," Lagos state police spokesman Pala Elkana told the agency.

"The couple will appear in court." If the couple is convicted, they will face a one-month prison sentence or a fine of 100,000 naira ($ 260) or both.

Akendele's actions sparked angry online reactions from her fans after her earlier appearances in advertisements calling on Nigerians to respect social estrangement measures. The actress apologized on her page on "Instagram" Sunday. "I am sorry if I misled you," she said. "I appreciate your concerns and promise you to always practice what I preach."

The authorities imposed a range of restrictions to stem the spread of the epidemic, including a two-week closure in the main cities of Lagos and Abuja.
