Unidad Editorial is the leader in Spain in the daily press during a period as important as the outbreak of the health crisis. With 2,383,000 readers , this group clearly outperforms the rest of the close-knit sector, and it does so despite the difficulties that the print media has recently faced in reaching its audience, since the distributions have suffered and closed most of commercial premises.

The publishing company of EL MUNDO is once again in first position in the report of the General Media Study (EGM) , which yesterday published a new wave, corresponding to the first quarter of this year. To assess the strength of Unidad Editorial, it is worth noting how its most immediate persecutors, Prensa Ibérica (2,108,000 readers) and Vocento (2,025,000) , do not reach the same records, even though they have grouped dozens of publications within their perimeters. Meanwhile, the relevance in the daily press of Unidad Editorial is achieved thanks to three outstanding headlines, EL MUNDO, with an audience of 657,000 readers, the economic Expansión , with 130,000, and the sports brand , with 1,596,000.

The information is proving more valuable than ever and EL MUNDO has responded to the demand of its readers in the face of the coronavirus-generated pandemic. This newspaper is consolidated as the second in the general press, behind only El País, the Prisa group and with 1,004,000 readers. Behind EL MUNDO, there are headlines such as La Vanguardia (532,000 readers) and La Voz de Galicia (492,000) . With a smaller audience than that of these regional publications, it is located in fifth place ABC, with 444,000 readers and further from EL MUNDO figures than in the previous EGM wave. The top ten list would be completed by El Periódico de Cataluña (362,000), from Prensa Ibérica; The Mail (301,000), from Vocento; La Nueva España (263,000), from the Iberian Press; Heraldo de Aragón (198,000), by Henneo; and La Razón (194,000), by Planeta.

Thus, the Madrid-based newspaper ABC and La Razón would not jointly gather the audience achieved by EL MUNDO. Furthermore, compared to the previous EGM wave, this newspaper has increased its readership by 50% in Navarra, 27% in the Basque Country, 20% in the Balearic Islands, 15% in the Canary Islands or 12% in Galicia.

Also within the Editorial Unit, Marca revalidates its first place in the sports press, to the point that it is today the most widely read newspaper in Spain. Its 1,596,000 readers account for more than double the number of its main rival, As (750,000), of the Prisa group. Far away are Mundo Deportivo (367,000), by Godó, and Sport (344,000), by Prensa Ibérica.

In the salmon press section, Expansión also scores a first position for Unidad Editorial, thanks to 130,000 readers, compared to 48,000 for Cinco Días, in Prisa.

The Editorial Unit count includes only the results of its daily press headings, but the count would be much higher than adding other publications such as Telva , with 257,000 readers. Among the media of this group, Radio Marca stands out on the airwaves, which according to the latest EGM manages to gather 409,000 listeners from Monday to Friday.
