  • "A plateau rather than a peak" has been observed in the development of New Aquitaine, according to the Regional Health Agency.
  • The epidemic continues to progress in this relatively untouched region, with 65 new confirmed cases identified on Monday.
  • The ARS deplores nine additional deaths, 120 in total since the start of the epidemic.

"We have observed for three days a plateau rather than a peak" in the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic. It is with this sentence that Dr. Daniel Habold, director of public health at the Regional Health Agency (ARS) began on Monday, which has become the daily point of ARS in New Aquitaine. This "plateau does not predict either an increase or a decrease in cases" of new coronavirus in the region, continued the doctor.

In New Aquitaine, the "viral pressure" would therefore have been lower in recent days, if we believe the figures transmitted by hospitals to Public Health France. Thus, the epidemic continues to progress with 65 new confirmed cases identified, bringing the total to 2,426 confirmed cases in the region since the start of the epidemic. There were 783 hospitalizations, against 762 the day before. If the victims of the Covid-19 transferred from the Grand Est are counted, 247 people are in intensive care (intensive care), against 243 on Sunday and, finally, we deplore nine additional deaths, or 120 in total since the start of the epidemic. .

The ARS also indicates not to note an excess mortality in the region. "There are certainly fewer deaths than last year at the same period but we will have to wait for observations from epidemiologists to find out what the real impact of Covid-19 will be on these figures. For this, we must still wait at least three weeks, ”analyzed Dr Patrick Dehail, medical advisor at ARS.

Logistical and human support for hospitals in need

New Aquitaine still seems to be preserved from the epidemic which is raging hard in the Grand Est and Ile-de-France. Health establishments in the region therefore continue to provide logistical and human support to hospitals in need. "Rather than moving the sick, it is now our caregivers who come to reinforce the teams most affected," said Daniel Habold.

"This weekend, I saw a lot of people in Bordeaux who wore FFP2 masks, which they had better give to caregivers in their neighborhood. These masks have nothing to do on Monsieur Toutlemonde's nose" , explains Dr Patrick Dehail, medical advisor of @ ARS_NAquit

As for masks, 3.8 million units have just been shipped to New Aquitaine. The prefect, Fabienne Buccio, said that no instructions regarding the wearing of masks or their distribution would be made to the population. Fearing "a reassuring effect", Patrick Dehail, for his part, recalled that wearing a mask should "not be a reason for non-compliance with barrier gestures or social estrangement".
