Postcard Killings

The events taking place in the detective drama "Murders by Postcards" cover several European cities at once. An unknown maniac kills people and leaves cards with encrypted messages. One of the victims is the daughter of American detective Jacob Canon (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Obsessed with revenge, a man joins the hunt for a maniac.

The plot of the tape was based on the novel by James Patterson and Lisa Marklund, “Card Slayers”. The director of the picture was the winner of the Oscar Danis Tanovich (Nobody’s Land, Sort).

According to the first viewers, the film contains elements of both a detective story and drama, and also touches on the problem of fathers and children. At the same time, some critics note the absence of intrigue in the tape: the culprit of what is happening appears on the screen too early, which makes it easy to predict the further development of events.

Sea Parasites (Sea Fever)

The heroine of the fantastic horror Nisa Hardiman "Marine parasites" Sivon (Hermione Corfield) - the future biologist. She gets an internship on a fishing vessel and plans to study marine life. However, the team is in danger after a collision with jellyfish creatures unknown to science.

At the Toronto Film Festival in 2019, this tape could be seen in the Discovery section - there are pictures of promising directors from around the world.

Critics praised the film. They noted that, in spite of the resemblance to the Ridley Scott horror “Alien” and other paintings, there is an individual author’s style. According to reviews, in his picture, Hardiman combined the beauty of the seascape with the details that are traditional for the horror genre and made the viewer more and more feel the inevitability of tragedy with each scene.

The rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 85%.

“Mountains, Sun, and Love” (Arev, Sarer u Ser)

Walking around one of the Moscow exhibitions, Anastasia draws attention to the picture of a certain Armenian artist: there are a lot of similarities between her and the girl captured in the picture. In the course of a simple investigation, it turns out that the mother of the heroine posed for the portrait. Anastasia decides that this is a canvas of her father’s brush, which she has never seen, and goes to Armenia, where she will have many adventures.

The film was directed by Garik Mashkaryan and actor and producer Michael Poghosyan. The latter also wrote the script, produced the picture and played the main role in it.

The Criminal Man

The Russian-Georgian drama by Dmitry Mamulia “The Crime Man” was presented in the competition section “Horizons” of the Venice Film Festival in 2019, but in the fight for the prize lost to Atlantis Ukrainian Valentin Vasyanovich.

The plot focuses on the 28-year-old deputy chief engineer from an industrial city. His life is turned upside down when he accidentally witnesses the murder of a famous goalkeeper. The hero begins to monitor the wife and daughter of the deceased and every day comes to the crime scene. Studying everything connected with the incident becomes an obsession for him. Over time, it turns out that the engineer is obsessed not only with this murder.

Being a “nobody” before, a man buys a gun and decides on a crime, which, in his opinion, should turn him into someone more “significant”.

According to the director, who also took part in the work on the script, in this picture he tried to investigate the genealogy of the crime and reveal its roots, to show the hero's metamorphoses, inside which there is an obsessive thought about the murder.
