Some cook, others applaud, chose him to use his digital tablet. For the past few days, an illustrator from Nantes has been talking about him on social networks after posting five very touching drawings, paying homage each time to a profession on the front line facing the epidemic of coronavirus. "When I saw the distress of the medical profession, I wanted to address the caregivers," says Mathieu Haas, 38 years old. And then there were so many reactions that I got back into the saddle. I felt a strong expectation from all these professionals, who are struggling to get us out of there. Sorry for the trades I couldn't talk about… ”

His representations of paramedics, food vendors, firefighters and social workers won over and quickly swamped the canvas. Adopted by internet users throughout France, they particularly affect Nantes residents thanks to symbols of the city that Mathieu Haas wanted to feature each time. "I wanted to address these professionals on behalf of the residents of my adopted city," says the man who settled in the City of the Dukes two years ago. Drawing offers this chance to be able to send messages very quickly. I have had extraordinary feedback. Emotionally, it's very special… ”

Five posters for five associations

With the Big Elephant carrying a nurse on his trunk, the designer specializing in storyboard wanted to put forward "an intention between the characters, whether it be strength, support or tenderness". In the drawing dedicated to firefighters, the wings of the heron (always with reference to the Machines of the Island) evoke the role of "guardian angel" of these rescue professionals. “For the paramedics, I had the idea of a slightly polar atmosphere, which fits well with their image of people in the shadows,” explains Mathieu Haas. In another style, he was inspired by the world of Mucha and the imagery of the LU biscuit factory for his drawing evoking the food sector. “The last one was more complex because social workers don't have very strong uniforms or markers. I chose the neck of the Nest stork, as a unifying ribbon for all outstretched hands. "

To combine business with pleasure, the designer has just launched a campaign on Ulule, entitled "Display your support", which offers visuals and prints for sale in different formats. The main part of the collection will be donated to five organizations or associations (endowment fund of the Nantes University Hospital, pupils of the firefighters, food aid association l'Autre Cantine…) linked to the professions in the spotlight. These posters “will remind all of us, once the difficult moments have passed, that they were there and that we will not forget them. "
