- It is very dark to see the series. Partly the people but especially the animals that are used as props in the lives of these people. I hope the series will lead to laws governing this, ”photographer Julia Lindemalm tells Culture News.

A strange meeting

In a photo book, Julia Lindemalm wanted to portray people who have taken their relationship with animals one step further. She found Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage alias Joe Exotic, "The King of the Tigers," who then owned around 200 tigers at his private zoo.

The encounter with the Tiger King remembers Julia Lindemalm as one of the strangest in her life.

Now Joe Exotic is serving a 22-year prison sentence, including for trying to order a murder of animal rights activist Carole Baskin.
