Until now, they have been hospitalized in Strasbourg, Colmar, Saverne, Sélestat and Haguenau. This Friday morning, just before 11 a.m., 24 patients with covid-19 and in serious condition left the Alsatian capital aboard a medical TGV, heading to Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

This new medical evacuation should make it possible to relieve the intensive care services of hospitals and clinics in the Grand-Est, always on the verge of saturation.

If its terminus is in Bordeaux, this TGV must stop first in Poitiers, where patients will be transferred to Niort, Limoges and La Rochelle.

In the Gironde capital, patients will be transported to hospitals in the city, but also in Libourne, Mont-de-Marsan and Dax.

Delicate transport

It is not the first time that an operation of this type has taken place between Strasbourg and Bordeaux. Each time, the sleeping sick are loaded one by one, in shell mattresses installed in classic oars slightly reconfigured.

"It is very delicate because the patient is sleeping, he is on artificial ventilation with a respirator, an oxygen cylinder and a monitoring device, so that is a lot of weight in addition to the patient," said Dr. Jean- Michel Dindart from the Bordeaux University Hospital, present on the train this Friday.

According to the Regional Health Agency, more than 200 patients from the Grand-Est have already been evacuated to other French regions, but also to Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria.
