Omar Montes (Madrid, 1988) has the mischief of someone who grew up in a neighborhood, Pan Bendito , where things are not always easy. Before starring in the pink press, he sought life by singing at private parties or hitting himself for money (he was the Spanish boxing champion). "I have always been a good businessman. I have known how to see the b side of things," he says.

Now, business is doing better than ever. After winning Survivors , he succeeds on both television and music. He regularly collaborates in different programs while 3.5 million people listen to him monthly on Spotify , where, in addition, he has placed his last five songs in the top 50 hits in Spain . His trick, he says, is for the themes to pass the filter of his grandmother and son: "I put them on them and if they like it, it goes forward. So far I have hit all of them. 10% of the top 50 is mine" .

QUESTION - Why did you start in music?

ANSWER - The first memory I have is with my friend Moncho Chavea , of going down the street when we were children and seeing a computer in the trash and picking it up. We put it at home and started making songs. We bought a micro gypsy, I don't know if we paid ... I don't remember. Not to fool you 15 or 20 euros. And we started recording scale models, scale models, scale models. And, as our music played in the neighborhood, the gypsies when they were going to get married or made requests because they told us "make us a song" and they gave us 50 or 100 euros.

Q - But did you want to be a singer?

A - I wanted to earn money, because life was very bad , and I said: " Well , if you have to sing, you sing." And since I've never been bad ...

Q - You started with flamenco, why the change to reggaeton?

A- Because flamenco is difficult to sell. You can have a great voice, you can have a divine compass, or even have an art to dance that freaks out, but people that often do not value it. People don't understand flamenco as much as culture . I see it as a culture and I love it. You put Camarón and Daddy Yankee here, who is supposed to be the greatest exponent, and I stay with Camarón. Come on, eyes closed. But it is true that the 15-year-old kids what they like is dancing in the clubs to have a good time and Camarón is not the same. So I had to merge.

Q - Was it when you started living on music, making money?

A - There, yes. There already, a fortune. Because we did not understand ... "Hey, do you want to come sing to this disco? Yes. How much do we ask, Moncho? I don't know, shoot him for ten or twelve thousand, to say something. Ah, but it is Very expensive. Oh, but it is not us ... And in the end they gave it to us. We did few concerts but the ones we did were for a lot of money .

Q- And when you started appearing in the pink press, did you not notice a change?

A- Well, we were already stuck for the gypsy public. They told us the kings of the gypsy trap , we went out everywhere and we had many concerts. Then already, when I came out on TV, I started to hit also for payos and sang for everyone. It has opened us up to a public that calls itself the mainstream , of even older people or young children.

Q- Have you changed your music knowing that you are reaching more people now?

A- It is that we believe that we have initiated a style, a genre, and therefore of palm hearts . If you realize, Rosalía is using a lot to put palm bases or even other artists. We made a movement that, from there, a lot of people have come out that now with those flamenco styles is hitting it. Before it was not worn. Instead, I am now changing, I am doing more reggaeton. What I like is to change and innovate.

Q- Have you not thought about leaving Pan Bendito?

A- It is that people love me a lot in my neighborhood because I am still the same. I keep going to the same places and meeting the same people. For me, being on TV or hitting two or three songs has not changed me. In fact, being able to have money to buy a house in the center, I don't. I do not want to leave my neighborhood . I am very happy with my people. I am changing but for the better, my lifestyle. Well instead of a 206 I buy a lambor . But that's not why I believe myself more than anyone. I keep parking where I always go with the same people and do the same things.

Q- Are you not afraid that the bubble of fame and money will deflate?

A- I have come this far making a straight path. I have not done anything from behind or skipped anyone. I also don't do strange things or laugh at anyone. I have done very serious things from the beginning so I am not afraid to go down . What you have to understand in life, no matter what position you have and no matter what you earn, is that you have to treat people the way you would like them to treat you. If you have these principles in life it is rare that you screw up and download it.
