Everyone is trying to deal with food economically in conditions of sanitary isolation, and there are some tips, published by "The Times", to keep vegetables and fruits longer.

Refrigerator temperature

The temperature of the refrigerator should range between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius, while the freezer temperature is better to range between -18 and -20 degrees Celsius. Also, care must be taken not to leave the refrigerator door open, especially after returning from shopping, as hot air reduces the shelf life of food .

Dispose of the lettuce bag

To save the lettuce for longer, you have to get rid of the bag and spread its leaves and let them soak in a bowl of cold water for a few hours and then get rid of the excess water and spread the lettuce leaves on a towel before putting them in a storage box Food and store in the refrigerator.

Keep the herbs moist

Food advisor Justin Pattison noted that the herbs need fresh air and some moisture so they can be wrapped in wet kitchen paper, and cool the herbs except for basil, which keeps better at room temperature, in a bowl of water.

Pattison recommends freezing vegetables you think you won't eat within days, but chopped vegetables and fruits should be placed in an airtight container.

Washing berries with vinegar

To preserve berries, you must wash them in water and vinegar (ratio: two-thirds of the bowl water and one-third of vinegar), then let it dry on kitchen paper and then store it in the refrigerator in a bowl lined with kitchen paper without closing it to allow any moisture to pass through. Vinegar reduces the level of reproduction of bacteria and mold to a minimum.

As for carrots, it can be kept in a bag and kept in the refrigerator for at least two weeks.

Separate fruits and vegetables

The ethylene gas released by some fruits will speed up the maturation of other products stored near it. So keep fruits, including bananas, avocados, and pears, away from other products.

You can keep the bananas at room temperature until they are tender, and then put them in the refrigerator to keep them fresh for a few more days.
