"The Horse Boys" by Johan Ehn and "The Thirteenth Summer" by Gabriella Sköldenberg, who represents Sweden in the fight for the Nordic Council children's and youth literature prize, are set against works from Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Åland and the Sami language area.

Usually, the nominees are published at the International Book Fair for Children and Youth Literature in Bologna, Italy, but it has been canceled this year due to the progress of the corona virus.

The prize was first awarded in 2013 and is the result of the Nordic culture ministers' desire to highlight children's and youth literature in the Nordic countries.

The winner will be presented on October 27 at an awards ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland. The winner receives the statue "Nordlys" and 350,000 Danish kronor.
