The fringe is a collection of festivals that first saw the light of day in 1947. Eight cultural actors were then denied being part of the opening of Edinburgh's international festival but decided to perform anyway.

Since then, the festivals have grown and the concept has spread to many other places in the world. At this year's festivals in Edinburgh, 4.4 visitors were expected and 25,000 artists and performers would have performed, but on Wednesday it was clear that organizers are canceling due to the corona virus, reports several international media.

The Fringe Society states in a statement that they are working to refund both tickets and attendance fees.
