Pierre Augé - The House of Petit Pierre

  • With the association Les Unsdépendants, Pierre Augé prepares meals for healthcare staff every day, on the front line in the coronavirus epidemic.
  • The system relies on local producers to support them in the face of the crisis.
  • A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to support the system.

In Béziers (Hérault), Pierre Augé is committed to nursing staff. Since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, a fortnight ago, the winner of Top Chef (and triple winner of the Clash of Champions ), took over the central kitchens of the town. With part of the team from his restaurant, the Maison de Petit-Pierre, and “restaurant friends”, he prepares, on a voluntary basis, meals for the doctors and nurses of the local health establishments, on the front line facing crisis.

“Staying without doing anything is not my thing, so if I can help, with what I can give, it is with pleasure, confides to 20 Minutes Pierre Augé. The idea is to offer those who care for us daily healthy meals, because they often eat quickly, on the go, not very well, without having time. If you can give a little heart balm to the nursing staff through a good meal, the bet is successful. "

Beef stew or crispy chocolate praline

The restaurateur and his heart brigade prepare around 300 meals, dishes and desserts each day for doctors and nurses. In recent days, a stew of beef with sweet potato, a fillet of hake roasted with a mustard vinaigrette or a crispy praline and chocolate have been delivered to caregivers, respecting hygienic measures. "Simple things, but with good products," says the winner of Top Chef . "Our teams loved these delicious dishes," rejoices the Béziers hospital center.

#thank you # solidarity #meals #caregivers 🙏

A big thank you to @PierreAugeOff and to Eric Montagné and Les Unsdépendants for having concocted a very good meal for our teams this afternoon!

In terms of products, the team sources exclusively from local farmers, in order to support the sector, which has been badly affected by the Covid-19 health crisis. "The markets are closed, but fruits and vegetables continue to grow," says Pierre Augé. If we don't help the producers, they are dead. So we buy their products, it makes them a little cash. We work with good products, and the caregivers eat healthy. Everyone is there, and it's consistent. "

A crowdfunding campaign

This surge of solidarity for medical personnel was imagined by the Unsdépendants, a non-profit association of craftsmen, anxious to participate in the national surge of solidarity. The nursing staff of the Béziers hospital, but also of the Saint-Privat clinic, have already benefited from these dishes simmered by chefs.

"Tomorrow, we will deliver the firefighters, or the Ehpad," hopes Olivier Payrastre, vice-president of the Unsdependants. To support the development of the solidarity system, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched (here).
