An 18-year-old man was placed in pre-trial detention in Hérault, after being verbalized six times on the public highway, between 20 and 29 March, for breach of confinement, reports Raphaël Balland, the prosecutor of the Republic of Béziers.

According to the magistrate, the suspect did not "have taken any account of the verbalizations and the reminders to the order of the gendarmes". On Monday, soldiers from the Valras-Plage brigade arrested him and placed him in police custody. "He explained his behavior by the wish to go to see friends because he was bored alone at his home," added the prosecutor.

Already known to justice

The man is already known to justice for crimes. He was sentenced in 2019 to suspended sentences with probation, and community service. He was also to be tried soon for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Wednesday, he will be tried for "reiteration more than three times within 30 days of violation of the prohibitions or obligations imposed in application of the state of health emergency", an offense which incurs the maximum penalties of six months imprisonment and 3,750 euros fine. In the meantime, he has been placed in pre-trial detention.
