  • Mayor Yannick Moreau wants to “affirm a clear message, a message of protection”.
  • He signed two texts, one aimed at prohibiting "any new occupation of second homes", the other to make impossible "rentals of tourist accommodation or short-term".

He wants to "prevent" or "at least limit" the coming of a second wave. In Sables-d'Olonne, in Vendée, the mayor Yannick Moreau has just signed several decrees aiming to dissuade the arrival of new inhabitants in the seaside resort. The first text, taken Friday, aims to prohibit "any new occupation of second homes". The second makes "tourist accommodation or short-term rentals" impossible. A third text must be signed this Monday to allow caregivers and construction workers to depart from this rule.

If the containment measures theoretically prohibit this type of displacement, Mayor Yannick Moreau wants to "affirm a clear message, a message of protection". On Facebook, the councilor is directly aimed at those who plan to reach the coast, especially during the Easter holidays which are fast approaching. The latter "must know that by seeking to come to Sables-d'Olonne they take the risk of joining a sector shortage of doctors, already under stress by the Covid-19," he writes. While their city or department of origin is generally better provided and therefore more secure. "

"Incivic recklessness"

In recent days, tensions have arisen here and there after the massive arrival of new residents on the coast. In Les Sables-d'Olonne, "the sweetness of the spring sun and a form of uncivil carelessness passed by there", confirms the mayor, after the prefect of the region has repeatedly castigated the attitude of certain people, " believing themselves to be on vacation ”.

The measures taken in the Vendée commune will remain in force until the end of the containment period.
