While the number of suspected cases is increasing in French prisons, two detainees have been diagnosed with Covid-19 at the Angers remand center, reports Ouest-France . The two men, in their forties, shared the same cell. Showing symptoms of coronavirus, they had been placed in a remote area where they were the subject of special surveillance.

According to the prison administration, quoted by the daily, their state of health does not inspire any concern. An investigation was launched within the remand center to try to understand how the two detainees may have been contaminated and to identify all the people with whom they were in contact.

Questioned Thursday on France Inter, the Minister of Justice Nicole Belloubet had indicated that ten prisoners had so far tested positive for Covid-19 and that about 450 with symptoms were currently "confined in wings fitted for this purpose".
